Appropriation Project

I chose this piece of artwork, The Mona Lisa, because when I was younger I saw this painting in person and I thought it was the coolest thing. Seeing this painting made me so happy but the one thing I always fixated on was the fact that she wasn’t really smiling. I was so confused why didn’t seem all that happy. Of course now I understand the meaning behind this painting and her “hidden smile”, but I thought it would be cool to see what the painting would have looked like if she would have truly smiled and been as happy as I was to see this painting.

This is Smiling Lisa, a much happier version of Mona Lisa, but still contains everything that makes this painting special. However, the more I looked at it, I began to realize maybe why Leonardo Da Vinci took the more subtle smile approach.
